The East Boston Neighborhood Health Center (EBNHC) has been a vital part of the community for more than 45 years. From the beginning, our services and development have been defined by the needs of East Boston and the communities we serve.

Our mission is to provide easily accessible, affordable, appropriate, high-quality, personalized, coordinated primary care, for all who live and work in East Boston and the surrounding communities, without regard to age, income, insurance status, language, culture, or social circumstances.

We are the leading health care provider in our service area, and among the largest community health centers in the country. During the past two decades, EBNHC has grown to care for more than 300,000 patient visits per year — more than any other ambulatory care center in New England. We deliver 1,000 babies annually, and our Pediatrics Department cares for almost every child living in East Boston.

As a cornerstone of the community, we’ve established strong relationships with our neighbors. Our governing board is composed of leaders from the community, most of whom are also patients. We have both formal and informal collaborative relationships with local civic organizations and faith and social service agencies. Our service referral relationships are with area providers of inpatient and specialty ambulatory care, including Boston Medical Center.

We believe that effective primary care must be personalized, accessible, and multidisciplinary. In addition to a full array of primary and specialty services, we have a 24x7x365 Emergency Department and an on-site pharmacy. To better serve our diverse patient population, we offer interpreters, transportation, and outreach. We’ve also developed innovative programs to help address the health and well-being of community members with specific needs, including HIV/AIDS, chronic diseases, children with multiple disabilities, and childhood obesity. In 2013, we were recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance as a Level 3 Patient-Centered Medical Home and we are an FTCA-deemed facility.

Our Elder Service Plan helps seniors in our community stay in their own homes for as long as possible. Our Education & Training Institute provides our present and future employees, many of whom are also neighbors and patients, with skill training and career paths.

A healthy community supports the health of each and every member. This is what we do and who we are.
